Branching timber posts hold the open market roof

Published · Updated

Branching timber posts hold the open market roof in a repeated sequence of strong uprights and angled braces. Thick oak members meet horizontal beams above broad stone footings, making the support structure clear from floor to eaves. Exposed rafters continue into the darker space overhead.

October light enters through the open sides and draws long bands across the worn paving. Two plain empty trestle tables stand farther away, small against the timber frame. The diagonal view begins beside a large near post and follows the hall across its open bays, showing the changing scale of the joinery and the quiet architectural depth beneath the wide tiled roof.
