Overhead salt ponds in copper orange and jade green meet pale pink basins along branching dark levees and narrow channels.

Salt ponds divide into copper and jade

Published · Updated

Salt ponds divide the frame into copper orange, jade green and pale rose fields. The overhead view brings their boundaries close together, with a narrow cream basin running diagonally between two stronger colors. Each area has a different surface texture. Fine ripples travel across the green water, while powdery mineral fringes gather along the quieter edges of the pink and orange ponds.

Dark earthen levees form a branching network through the composition. Their slightly uneven widths and worn margins prevent the geometry from feeling mechanical. Small gates cross the narrow channels at several junctions, linking the basins without interrupting the broad shapes. A muddy strip follows the lower-right waterline, where irregular patches create a softer boundary than the raised banks above.

The strongest contrast sits between the saturated orange expanse and the deep green water. Cream deposits provide a lighter pause between them, with muted rose tones adding another layer. There is no horizon or distant skyline to anchor the eye. Instead, the long diagonal levees guide the view from one corner to the next and make the whole scene read as a richly textured map.
