Tufa towers rise from the copper lake

Published · Updated

Tufa towers rise from the copper lake in an uneven cluster of pale peaked forms. Rough knobbly surfaces catch the last warm light, while the darker sides show the depth of the porous stone. Smaller formations continue across the middle distance beyond the nearest tower.

Still water surrounds their bases and mirrors the shapes with only slight ripples. Copper clouds spread over a low dark ridge, leaving long bands of gold and violet across the lake. The low shoreline view keeps a broad area of open reflection below the stone, giving the formations space to stand apart and linking their vertical shapes to the wider evening landscape.
