Scarecrow Band Fills the Harvest Front Yard
Published · Updated
A scarecrow band gives this harvest display the shape of a small front-yard concert. Three stuffed figures hold an acoustic guitar, a banjo and a tall double bass beneath the brick porch. Their button eyes, stitched smiles and straw hair make the handmade character of the scene clear. Each instrument has a different outline, helping the group remain readable among the surrounding decorations.
The seated guitarist wears a checked shirt and faded overalls while resting on a hay bale. A mustard coat and patched trousers dress the banjo player in the middle. At the right, green plaid and dark overalls accompany the upright bass, whose wooden body reaches almost to the ground. Loose straw emerges at sleeves, collars and ankles around the soft fabric hands.
Corn stalks stand against the white porch columns, and orange and yellow chrysanthemums fill pots beside the steps. Pumpkins sit between the figures and along the path. Above, a maple canopy spreads warm gold across the roofline. Fallen leaves cover patches of lawn and paving, joining the playful musicians to the ordinary materials and scale of a neighborhood autumn display.
