The cardboard dragon takes the school stage
Published · Updated
The cardboard dragon opens its toothy mouth toward a small knight puppet as two children work through their story on a school stage. Green painted panels, yellow spots and a red mouth reveal the dragon's handmade construction. The girl and boy look toward each other with bright, absorbed expressions.
A painted moon and hanging clouds form the night sky behind them. Warm stage lamps catch the edges of the puppets and the wooden floor, while a dark curtain frames the side of the scene. The knight's plain gray shield and the dragon's hinged jaw leave plenty of room for imagination. The photograph holds the shared pleasure of making a performance from simple materials.
