The Cobalt Inlay Salon
Published · Updated
Cobalt tiles covered in delicate climbing flowers form the centrepiece of this tall salon. Pale carved columns and arches frame the blue walls, while a dark wooden staircase winds past the seating area to an upper gallery. Large windows bring cool garden light into the room. Three pierced brass pendants hang at different heights, adding warm points of light against the rich blue ceramic surface and drawing attention to its subtle shine.
Below, a long walnut cabinet carries pale floral inlay, echoed by a pair of curved tables arranged around a round brass tray. Amber velvet sofas and teal cushions soften the room without hiding its decorative floor. The black-and-ivory mosaic spreads in large curling leaf patterns, bringing movement to the open space between the furniture. Every part of the scene contributes a different texture: glossy tile, carved stone, polished timber, velvet and small mosaic pieces.
