The Crimson Ribbon Bookshop
Published · Updated
A broad crimson staircase rises through the centre of this richly furnished bookshop, its curved timber rails drawing the eye toward the upper gallery. Closely spaced balusters follow every change in direction, while carved brackets support the surrounding shelves and roof beams. Books fill both levels from low display tables to the tall cases along the walls. Above them, a large glass roof admits cool daylight through a scatter of raindrops, with soft tree shapes visible beyond the panes.
Warm lamps pick out the grain of the dark wood and the uneven textures of book cloth, paper and carpet. On the lower floor, two green leather chairs face one another beside an arched window, forming a small reading corner with its own table lamp. Floral arrangements soften the dense joinery and the orderly rows of shelves. Seen from the gallery, the room combines an impressive architectural centrepiece with smaller places to sit, browse and pause, making the staircase feel like part of a complete, welcoming interior.
