The Gilded Library of Tall Galleries
Published · Updated
Tall walnut bookcases rise through several galleries beneath a curved glazed roof. Carved columns and pierced balustrades divide the shelves into a repeating framework, with fine gilt foliage decorating the larger arches. Books fill the walls in muted brown, red and green tones. Long wooden ladders rest beside the upper shelves, adding slender vertical lines to the dense rows of bindings.
Below, polished reading desks stand with dark leather chairs and small amber lamps. A patterned runner crosses the wooden floor, softening the long central space. Cool light enters through the rain-marked roof and a tall end window, where autumn branches are visible outside. The warm lamps bring out the grain of the desks without making the room uniformly bright. This photograph suits library inspiration, dark wood interiors and collections of richly detailed architecture. Its height is balanced by the close view of ordinary reading furniture.
