The Fern and Amber Winter Salon
Published · Updated
Rain runs down the tall glass roof of this planted winter salon, softening the view of bare branches beyond. Sage green iron columns and delicate arched window frames rise among palms and tree ferns, while amber lanterns hang at different heights between the leaves. The room opens from a short stone stair into a generous seating area, surrounded by clay pots and low planted beds edged in dark stone.
An olive velvet sofa faces two curved wicker chairs around a small dark marble table, where a silver tea service catches the lamplight. Further chairs and tables sit quietly beside the windows. Old red bricks form a herringbone floor, adding warmth beneath the cool wet glass. The photograph balances the lush shelter of an indoor garden with the weather outside, giving each material a distinct presence: soft velvet, woven wicker, mottled terracotta and painted iron. Warm reflections on the stair and floor lead into a comfortable room filled with foliage and gentle light.
