The Gilded Octagon Reception Hall

Published · Updated

Golden leaf patterns cover the walls of this towering octagonal hall, standing out against deep muted blue panels. Round stained glass windows repeat at two levels, their pale blue centres adding cool light among the warm lamps. A dark wooden gallery circles the room beneath a deeply patterned ceiling, where geometric recesses hold further rosettes and small glazed openings. Fine columns and delicate railings connect the richly decorated surfaces.

Four sapphire velvet benches surround a broad dark stone table with a vase of autumn branches. The furnishings stay low, allowing the full height of the room to remain visible through the open doorway. Large polygons of walnut parquet radiate across the floor, catching soft gold reflections and showing varied grain within each piece. The photograph gives a generous view of the hall's intricate craft, from the deeply shadowed ceiling panels to the polished timber below. Blue glass, dark wood and warm metal create a room with extraordinary detail and a calm central arrangement.
