The Great Rope Weave Supper Room

Published · Updated

An immense basket weave of thick hemp ropes fills the ceiling above this quiet supper room. Broad bundles cross over and under one another, with dark steel beams and fastening straps visible between the strands. Soft daylight from the harbour windows reveals the pale fibres and the gentle shadows beneath each crossing, giving the ceiling a strong sense of depth and weight.

Below the canopy, a long walnut table is laid with white plates, folded napkins and clear stemware. Brown leather chairs form two orderly rows, while smaller tables stand along the windows and opposite wall. Amber table lamps add small pools of warmth to the cool afternoon light. A leafy arrangement in a pale jug breaks the long line of place settings.

Plain ceramic vessels occupy wooden shelves along the textured right wall. Outside, boats lie beside the quay beneath a grey sky, framed by trees with autumn leaves. Uneven dark flagstones carry a restrained sheen, allowing the rope, wood and leather to remain the room's main textures. Free reuse includes personal and commercial projects.
