The Ivory Fern Stair Atrium
Published · Updated
Paired stairways rise through this immense pale atrium, meeting at rounded central landings on each level. Their ivory iron railings are pierced into long fern leaves, topped by warm wooden handrails that follow the repeated curves. Slender columns support the side galleries and a broad glass roof, where fine rain streaks soften the view of trees beyond. Small globe lamps add warm points of light to the airy structure.
At ground level, oak benches and simple display tables sit among large ceramic vessels, folded cloth and leafy branches. A dark green stone counter provides a deeper note beside the pale paving, while the open centre keeps the layered stairs visible from the entrance. The room feels grand through height and repetition, with delicate metalwork keeping the scale light. The photograph follows the stairways from their lowest steps toward the wet glass overhead, revealing the relationship between curved landings, narrow supports and quiet furnishings. Soft daylight makes the painted fern patterns particularly clear.
