The Marble Ribbon Stair Hall
Published · Updated
A broad marble staircase curves around a tall pink stone column in this luminous botanical hall. Its dark green runner follows the sweeping steps, edged with a narrow gold pattern and held by slim brass rods. Black iron railings carry gilded leaves between their scrolling stems, with a polished wooden handrail tracing the curve. Above, a glass roof admits soft daylight through fine streaks of rain, brightening the pale marble walls and their delicate grey veins.
Large paintings of flowers and fern leaves bring the garden into the room, joined by real ferns spilling from carved stone urns beside the stairs. Dark green bands cross the marble floor and echo the colour of the runner. An open doorway reveals a further gallery, while a worn wooden bench offers a quiet place near the entrance. The photograph makes the staircase feel like a ribbon moving through the building, surrounded by plant shapes, natural stone and the gentle light of a wet spring day.
