The Ochre Lake Villa and Ivy Stair
Published · Updated
An ochre villa overlooks a quiet lake from a garden of clipped hedges and sculpted shrubs. Three broad arches open onto a sheltered terrace, with ivy climbing the columns and spreading beneath the upper windows. Dark green shutters and pale stone corner blocks give the warm plaster a clear frame. A long exterior stair descends beside a carved balustrade, linking the raised terrace to the lawn and gravel paths below.
Rounded topiary, a spiral-shaped shrub and slender evergreens add different forms to the garden. Beyond them, blue water stretches toward wooded mountain slopes, with soft afternoon light warming the house and leaving the distant landscape cooler. The photograph brings together architectural detail and a carefully maintained outdoor setting. It offers inspiration for climbing plants on loggias, simple warm wall colors and garden levels connected by generous stone stairs. Small signs of age in the plaster, roof tiles and masonry keep the scene tactile, while the empty terrace gives it a peaceful atmosphere.
