The Pools Below the Walled Garden
Published · Updated
A long rectangular pool lies below a sequence of garden terraces. Small fountain jets arc across the water in a repeated pattern, their droplets catching the morning light. White calla lilies and glossy leaves fill the nearest border, surrounded by dense violet flowers. Pale stone coping gives the water a precise edge against the softer planting.
Broad stairs rise between clipped hedges toward an ochre lookout pavilion with an open upper arch. Stone urns and rounded shrubs mark the landings, while palms, cypresses and a silvery olive tree add height beyond the walls. The plaster and paving show small patches of age, keeping the formal composition warm and tactile. Ripples interrupt the reflected greenery and the clear blue sky. This photograph suits water feature inspiration, terraced garden planning and spring color collections. The pool establishes a long foreground that connects directly to the stairs and upper pavilion.
