The Round Home beneath a Ring of Sky

Published · Updated

Large peeled timbers turn around a circular skylight, each overlapping the next as the roof closes toward its centre. Their irregular grain and warm colour give the ceiling a strong physical presence. Pale boards fill the spaces between them, while the opening above frames blue sky and copper autumn leaves. The room remains open beneath this ring of wood, with no central post interrupting the floor.

A curved cream sofa follows the wall on the left, softened by cushions and a plum-coloured wool throw. Across the room, a simple oak dining table sits beside shelves of books and pottery. A compact dark stove occupies a small stone hearth against the far wall. The furniture leaves a clear central area, where an oval rug and low wooden table bring the different parts of the room together.

Deep timber-framed windows look into the surrounding woodland. Sunlight crosses the sofa, rug and uneven stone floor, while the shelves hold quieter shadows. The round plan and visible roof structure create a complete home that feels sheltered without closing out the trees and changing sky.
