The Scalloped Hedge Garden
Published · Updated
Tall yew hedges rise and sweep outward in a sequence of broad sculpted curves. Their deep green surfaces form a dramatic boundary on either side of the lawn, turning a simple garden walk into a strong architectural space. At the end stands a pale stone shelter with one round arch, a wooden bench and four plain urns along the roof. The small building gives the long view a clear destination.
The borders are filled with purple and pink flowers, burgundy dahlias, pale grasses and rounded seed heads. This loose, varied planting contrasts with the clipped hedges and the smooth lawn. Low afternoon sun catches the outer curves of the greenery, while autumn trees add gold behind the shelter. The image offers inspiration for balancing formal structure with softer seasonal planting. It also works as a detailed garden background or a reference for green and purple color palettes.
