The Tin Owl on the School Stairs
Published · Updated
The old school stairwell is quiet beneath a tall arched window. A small owl toy waits on the last step, facing the empty flight below. Worn stone treads fill the foreground, their rounded edges catching narrow bands of light. Dark green tiles wrap the walls and deep corner posts, giving the broad staircase a strong, simple rhythm.
Paper bats hang on fine strings above the railings, with a second garland of autumn leaves stretched across the window. These modest decorations soften the height of the room. A scarf lies over the right handrail, while the moon and bare branches appear beyond the glass. The owl is a small detail within the large school interior, easy to discover after following the steps upward.
Warm lamplight reaches across the left wall, where an unseen visitor casts a long coat-shaped shadow. Cooler light falls over the upper steps from the landing. Stone, iron, tile and paper each keep a distinct surface, making the scene feel still and solid. The combination of an ordinary school staircase and a solitary watchful toy gives the Halloween setting its quiet tension.
