The Twisted Leather Ceiling Lounge
Published · Updated
Broad leather straps twist across the top of this lofty lounge, revealing pale undersides beside smooth cognac faces. Stitched edges and visible metal fixings make the unusual canopy feel carefully constructed. Long openings between the straps admit bright daylight, while the repeating curves soften the strong lines of the balcony and tall windows below.
Chestnut sofas and cream textured chairs gather around low dark stone tables. An ochre rug brings warmth to the pale floor, and copper-coloured branches rise from a large earthenware vase. Beyond the glazing, an autumn tree echoes the leather's rich colour. Small floor lamps and a quiet fireplace add intimate points of warmth beneath the immense overhead space.
The room draws its character from the contrast between supple material and architectural scale. Leather, usually encountered in furniture, becomes a ceiling surface that can be read from across the hall. Close details reveal seams and subtle tonal changes; the broader view reveals light passing through the twists. Calm limestone walls and restrained furnishings allow that single construction idea to define the whole interior.
