Two on the Lighthouse Gallery
Published · Updated
A broad lighthouse beam crosses the dark sky above two children standing on a curved iron gallery. The lamp glows through tall glass panels beside them, revealing the worn paint and metalwork of the tower. Beyond the railing, moonlight breaks across the sea in a long silver path. A small ship carries a cluster of warm lights near the horizon, a distant answer to the brilliant lantern overhead.
The girl points toward the vessel, her red duffel coat vivid against the blue night. Wind lifts her long fair hair and the end of her striped scarf. Her brother stands close by in a navy coat and knitted hat, following the same line across the water. The railing curves around both children, grounding their small figures against the open sea and clouded sky. Rocks and white water far below give the gallery its sense of height.
