White Bobbin Lace Beneath the Leaves
Published · Updated
White bobbin lace descends from a round blue pillow in a delicate scalloped strip. An older craftswoman studies the pinned work through small spectacles, holding a pair of wooden bobbins just above the fine threads. Her silver braid falls over an ink-blue blouse, with a terracotta skirt gathered beside the low stool.
Dozens of honey-colored bobbins fan around the cushion, making the many separate threads visible before they become part of the floral pattern. A tree trunk and leafy shade give the setting a quiet enclosure, while flowers and a sleeping cat appear softly behind her. The photograph draws attention to the contrast between sturdy wooden tools and the light, intricate textile they help produce.
