Willow Rooms above the Dark Pond
Published · Updated
Narrow oak walks join above a dark pond, opening one sheltered garden space after another. Tall willow screens follow parts of the curves, their fine stems allowing glimpses of water and planting beyond. The route feels enclosed in places and open in others, with each turn offering a different relationship to the pond.
The timber widens where a seat is needed. Fitted benches rest beside the living screens, while planted islands give the willows and waterside foliage a substantial place to grow. The paths stay close to the surface, making the reflections part of the experience rather than a distant view. Connections between the loops keep the garden walkable and lead back to the planted bank.
Soft daylight catches the upper leaves and the edges of the worn boards. Beneath the seats, the water becomes darker, broken by a few floating leaves and small ripples. Sedges and irises soften the structural curves without hiding them. This imagined garden creates its sense of escape through a complete arrangement of routes, shelter and resting places, all held together by living stems and quiet water.
