A coconut crab climbs down the palm
Published · Updated
A coconut crab climbs down a palm trunk beside the blue sea. Its mottled shell carries patches of rust brown, muted violet and cream, with thick jointed legs hooked against the rough bark. Two large claws point downward beneath the small dark eyes and fine antennae.
The ringed trunk curves through the frame, providing a clear surface for the animal's gripping limbs. Fibrous coconut husks rest on the sandy ground below, and green fronds cast broken shadows through the coastal grove. Soft early sunlight reveals the hard shell texture and the worn ridges of bark. The close oblique view keeps the crab within its natural setting while making the different appendages readable.
