An old olive tree spreads its silver canopy
Published · Updated
An old olive tree spreads a broad silver canopy above a deeply folded gray trunk. Heavy low branches divide from the irregular base, with narrow leaves and a few dark olives catching the angled light. Exposed roots meet the pale limestone and dry grass around the foot of the tree.
An uneven grove recedes down the hillside toward a distant slate-blue sea. A light breeze turns some leaves to reveal their paler undersides, giving the crown small changes of tone. The low three-quarter view holds bark detail and the wider setting together, showing the mature tree as a substantial living form within the open autumn landscape.
