A flower stand brightens the wet autumn lane

Published · Updated

A flower stand brightens a wet country lane beneath golden maple branches. Buckets of burgundy, orange, peach and cream blooms fill its rough wooden shelves. Large dahlia heads rise above smaller flowers, with green stems and leaves breaking up the dense color. The display is sheltered beneath a green and cream striped awning.

A wet stone wall follows the edge of the stand toward the road. Moss softens the uneven gaps, and fallen leaves gather along its base. Wooden crates support the lower shelves, while a wicker basket rests on the gravel nearby. Damp canvas and darkened timber retain the marks of a recent shower.

Beyond the flowers, the lane bends toward a red barn at the foot of a wooded hill. Low sunlight catches the wet surface in bright patches and turns the trees into broad bands of gold and rust. The vertical frame connects the close textures of the stall to the open landscape behind it. With nobody present, the bright bouquets become a small welcoming landmark beside the quiet road.
