A golden ginkgo leaf floats in a rippling stone basin beneath a yellow tree canopy in a quiet walled courtyard.

A ginkgo leaf lands in the courtyard basin

Published · Updated

A ginkgo leaf has just settled on the dark water of a stone basin. Its broad fan shape sits inside a series of fine ripples, while a few older leaves gather against the far edge. The close viewpoint lets the wet leaf, narrow stem and rounded rim carry the immediate story. Reflected branches break into small golden fragments as the water moves.

Above the basin, a golden canopy spreads across the courtyard from a thick gray trunk. Small gaps between the leaves admit pale sky and dappled light. A rough block wall encloses the garden, with a simple stone table and low seats set well back from the water. Fallen leaves scatter across the paving without hiding its irregular surface.

The dark basin creates a second view of the tree, bringing the overhead branches into the foreground. Its coarse edge holds tiny highlights where the stone is wet, contrasting with the smooth reflection within. The photograph joins a brief, delicate movement to the larger settled shapes of trunk, wall and courtyard furniture, all warmed by the same autumn light.
