A hoatzin reaches for the riverside leaves
Published · Updated
A hoatzin reaches toward riverside leaves from a sturdy sloping branch. Its orange crest rises in separate thin spikes above blue facial skin and a clear red eye. Cream streaks cross the dark neck, and layered brown wings lie folded over the rusty body beside a long cream-tipped tail.
Both feet grip the bark while the short bill touches the edge of a green leaf. Glossy foliage surrounds the branch, with a quiet backwater and tall forest trees visible below and behind the bird. Broken morning light catches the crest and feather edges, leaving the reflected water darker. The environmental view keeps the whole bird attached to its perch within the humid leafy setting.
