A pinecone sculpture fills the autumn court
Published · Updated
A pinecone sculpture fills the autumn court with overlapping wooden scales. Its broad lower body tapers toward a narrow pointed crown, while each rounded diamond shape carries a different trace of grain. Small dark fasteners remain visible near the edges. The repeated pieces create a strong upward rhythm without making the surface perfectly uniform.
Three steel feet hold the sculpture above a broad baseplate on wet brick. Bolts and shadowed gaps make the support clear. A shallow puddle in the foreground reflects the lower scales and nearby leaves, breaking the image into softer ripples. Scattered yellow leaves lie across the paving and gather beside the planted border.
A yellow ginkgo spreads its canopy behind the wooden form. Green shrubs and grasses fill the ground below it, while vertical timber slats close the back of the courtyard. A plain pale wall and simple bench provide quieter shapes at the right. The diffused light after rain brings out both the warm wood and the dark reddish paving. The portrait framing leaves room for the tree above and the reflected sculpture below, connecting the object to its seasonal setting.
