A pumice raft drifts across the blue sea
Published · Updated
A pumice raft spreads across the blue water in a broad uneven sheet. Separate porous stones float close together near the left edge, then loosen into smaller clusters toward the right. Their pale gray and tan surfaces show many little cavities above dark wet edges at the waterline.
Narrow open channels weave between the pieces and widen into clear sea beside the raft. Small ripples catch bright highlights around the nearest stones, while a low bank of white clouds stretches above the distant horizon. Seen from just above the surface, the floating fragments remain distinct within the larger pattern, giving the unusual ocean scene both close texture and broad scale.
