A sea surge fills the sandstone window

Published · Updated

A sea surge fills the sandstone window with turquoise water and white foam. Seen from within the sheltered rock opening, the incoming wave pushes through a narrow gap and spreads toward the foreground. Droplets and broken bubbles catch the daylight, while darker water beneath them holds the rich blue-green color of the sea. The moment feels energetic without obscuring the shape of the surrounding stone.

The arch is built from deeply weathered ochre sandstone. Small pits, shallow hollows and irregular ledges cover its face, recording the uneven character of coastal erosion. Wet areas near the base darken to brown and reflect thin streaks of light. Above the opening, a low strip of grass follows the top of the rock against a pale sky.

Beyond the burst of water lies a calmer view of the open ocean. That distant horizontal blue gives the composition a clear sense of direction and depth. In the foreground, foam curls around the rough lower ledges before drawing back into the channel. The photograph brings together the lasting mass of the arch and a passing rush of water, making the natural window both a frame and an active part of the scene.
