A shower crosses the ceramics market

Published · Updated

A shower reaches the ceramics market just as a pair of visitors steps beneath the timber eaves. The woman looks toward her companion while he gathers their dark umbrella, and a stallholder reaches up to adjust the cream awning. Beside the display, another shopper keeps a jug in both hands while glancing toward the arriving rain. Each small action belongs to the same change in the weather.

Glazed jugs, bowls and mugs crowd the close shelves in cobalt blue, moss green and cream. Their rounded rims catch the cool daylight, while speckled surfaces and uneven color make the individual pieces easy to distinguish. Low timber tables lead back toward more pottery and visitors within the covered aisle.

Above them, a substantial post divides into broad Y-shaped braces beneath the tiled roof. The structure gives the scene height without overwhelming the activity below. Wet paving reflects the open sky along the market edge, while the sheltered foreground stays darker. Rain streaks, folded cloth and shifting attention turn an ordinary pause into the center of the scene.
