A snail explores the glass of a moss terrarium
Published · Updated
A snail explores the outside of a moss terrarium, its small brown shell resting against the curve of a clear glass bowl. Two long feelers extend ahead while the moist foot keeps contact with the smooth surface. Inside the glass, tiny fern fronds rise from uneven cushions of moss. Dark soil and a layer of pale gravel remain visible below, giving the miniature planting a clear sense of depth.
The bowl sits in a weathered hand-shaped planter made from a stone-like material. Its sculpted fingers cradle the base, and patches of moss cover parts of the wrist and broad foot beneath it. The support rests firmly on an old wooden shelf beside an open window. Its rough surface contrasts with the clean curved highlights on the glass and the living texture of the plants.
Soft garden light enters from the left, showing leafy reflections across the bowl without hiding the small world inside. Beyond the window, flowers and foliage blur into warm greens. The photograph brings together the slow movement of the snail, the careful layers of the planting and the worn surfaces of an ordinary potting space.
