A spiral aloe unfolds in the rainy rock garden
Published · Updated
A spiral aloe unfolds in the rainy rock garden through tightly overlapping ranks of thick leaves. Each triangular blade tapers to a dark point, with small pale teeth along its edge. The compact center gives way to larger outer leaves, making the spiral clear across the whole rosette.
Rain beads gather near the bases and along the waxy surfaces, reflecting the soft cool light. Angular charcoal slate, fine thyme and a few rusty leaves surround the plant without interrupting its outline. The near-overhead view emphasizes the ordered growth while preserving small differences in leaf size, angle and texture, giving the bold geometry the irregular detail of a living garden plant.
