A welwitschia spreads its ribbons across the desert
Published · Updated
A welwitschia spreads its ribbons across the desert from a low woody crown. Broad olive leaves twist over the gravel, their long surfaces divided into uneven strips and finished with dry curled brown tips. Small tan cones gather near the center, adding another scale of texture to the plant.
The low landscape view includes the entire spreading form and the open ground around it. Wind-polished pebbles lead toward pale distant dunes softened by morning haze. Green inner surfaces and rough brown edges catch the same gentle light, keeping the plant distinct without separating it from the restrained beige and gray colors of its desert setting.
