Bull kelp ribbons drift beneath the green water
Published · Updated
Bull kelp ribbons drift beneath the green water in loose overlapping groups. Long amber stems curve between smooth rounded bulbs near the surface, while darker olive blades extend into the water below. Small highlights catch the wet tops as the submerged shapes soften through the moving surface.
Ripples bend the sunlight into wavering lines over a pale patch below the kelp. Different depths separate the nearest blades from the darker forms behind, making the transparent water part of the composition. The straight-down view follows the changing curves and broad ribbons without a visible horizon, concentrating on their color, texture and gentle floating arrangement.
