A jacana steps across the floating leaves
Published · Updated
A jacana steps across the floating leaves with one foot spread wide over the green surface. Its long slender toes reach across the leaf, while the other leg moves forward into the next careful step. Brown folded wings and a cream underside remain clear above the water.
The chestnut crown and narrow bill point along the route through the marsh. Small ripples move around the leaf edges, breaking the bird's reflection into softer patches below. The low broad view leaves room for dark open water and scattered vegetation, showing how the unusual feet fit into a setting of light floating surfaces and shallow gaps between them.
