Two adult friends meet among colored glass panels in a garden maze beneath tall trees and bright afternoon sunlight.

Colored glass turns the garden into a maze

Published · Updated

Colored glass turns a familiar garden walk into a sequence of unexpected views. A woman rounds a ruby panel and meets her friend approaching from a neighboring passage. They smile toward one another as the stone path brings them together. Her pale blue lemon-print dress and his simple linen shirt remain clear within the warm patches of light cast by the surrounding panels.

The garden maze is made from tall transparent sheets held in dark metal frames. Broad feet anchor each frame to the paving, and the panels recede through amber, cobalt and pale aqua. Their colors overlap with reflections of flowers and leaves, making each opening feel slightly different from the last. The transparency allows several layers of the garden to remain visible at once.

Large plane trees rise above the installation, their mottled trunks and sunlit canopy giving it a natural setting. Red light spreads across the nearest stones while softer gold appears farther along the walkway. Small flowers grow between the frames, joining the crisp geometry to the planting. The two friends’ relaxed meeting provides a human scale for the otherwise tall, luminous arrangement.
