Copper wind spinner blades turn above the gravel

Published · Updated

A copper wind spinner turns above the rain-dark gravel of a planted courtyard. Two wheels of curved leaf blades sit at opposite ends of a horizontal axle. The central post stays sharp while a few outer edges soften with movement. Hammered surfaces catch the low sun in bright copper flashes, with muted green patina around the hubs.

The dark post is bolted to a compact base of stacked stone. Its visible supports make the sculpture feel firmly settled in the garden. A broad yucca spreads pointed blue-green leaves to the left, while small pink flowers and gray-green planting soften the other side. Tall dry seedheads add a different kind of vertical rhythm.

A stepped adobe wall runs behind the sculpture, framing distant hills beneath retreating clouds. Sunbeams fall through a pale opening in the sky. Water darkens the red gravel and gathers on a flat sandstone seat in the foreground. The metal, plants and wet ground share the same warm light, making the passing breeze visible through the turning blades.
