Through a rain-streaked Ferris-wheel window, a man watches a crow-masked figure crouching on the neighbouring gondola roof.

A Crow Mask Above the Stormy Wheel

Published · Updated

Rain covers the gondola window as a young man presses both hands against the glass. Beyond him, a crow-masked figure crouches on the roof of the neighbouring cabin, gripping a short rail. Its tilted head turns the long beak toward the warm interior. The narrow gap between the two cabins makes the encounter feel close, while the sea and pier below reveal the height of the wheel.

Small golden bulbs trace the rim through the storm. A flash of lightning cuts the blue sky, briefly lifting the shape of the mask and the ragged coat from the darkness. The figure’s boots and gloved hand remain anchored to the wet roof. Inside, a lantern lights the wooden bench beside a paper cone of candied nuts, ordinary details held against the strange view outside.

The man’s dark shoulder frames the scene without hiding the visitor. Water beads, cabin frames and receding lights create several distinct layers between the viewer and the open sea. Cold storm light and the small warm lantern divide the photograph into exposed and sheltered spaces.
