Dawn mist threads the rolling Palouse fields
Published · Updated
The Palouse fields rise in gentle layers from the near grass to a distant wooded ridge. Dawn mist gathers in the low spaces between them, leaving the crests clear enough to catch the first warm light. Narrow golden edges trace the rolling hills without hiding their green surfaces. A small pale farm building sits beside a compact group of trees, giving the broad view an intimate point of scale.
Curved tracks follow the shape of the land. In the foreground, fine rows bend across one slope before disappearing behind the next. Farther away, the fields soften into overlapping olive and blue-gray bands. The long view compresses these folds while keeping enough detail to distinguish planted ground, bare tracks and scattered trees.
Only a slim strip of peach sky appears at the top. Most of the frame belongs to the changing land, with bright grass nearest the camera and cooler shadows farther below. The quiet atmosphere comes from this gradual passage through texture and distance. Small pockets of fog add softness without obscuring the farm or turning the whole valley into a blank surface.
