Driftwood Logjam Spans the Mountain River
Published · Updated
A driftwood logjam spans a bright mountain river between moss-covered boulders. Thick pale trunks cross at uneven angles, their broken branches and dark bark strips showing where the wood has weathered. Exposed roots rise at the near side, adding a tangled vertical shape to the long horizontal logs.
Turquoise water runs beneath the fallen trees and spills through narrow gaps between the stones. White foam gathers around the obstacles before spreading into clearer currents below. The trunks rest against rock and one another, leaving enough open space to follow the river farther into the valley.
Ferns cover the shaded bank beside the viewpoint, and damp granite catches small points of sunlight near the foreground. Tall spruce trees line both sides of the channel, their dark crowns giving way to pale jagged mountain peaks. Patches of snow remain high on the distant slopes. The long view connects close roots and rushing water with the larger mountain setting, showing how a tangle of fallen timber becomes part of the river's changing route through the forest.
