A platypus searches the pebbled riverbed

Published · Updated

A platypus searches the shallow riverbed with its broad gray bill held close to the stones. Brown fur covers the rounded body and flat tail, while webbed feet spread outward in the clear green water. Pale bands of sunlight cross its back and brighten the rounded pebbles below.

Submerged roots descend from the left bank into the open channel, and tiny suspended specks catch the light around the animal. The rippling surface remains visible overhead, tying the underwater view to the sunlit river above. A darker foreground rock frames the near corner while the bill, closed eye and textured fur stay clearly visible in the low view.
