A dumpling party fills a small courtyard with flour, conversation and a tray of handmade shapes. Three friends work around the preparation table, each taking a different part in the process. One woman pinches pleated dough edges, a man holds up a flower shaped dumpling, and the other woman pauses with her rolling pin to laugh at the result.

Their tulip blouse, rust checked shirt and green patterned dress bring distinct colors to the group. Dough rounds, chopped vegetable filling and finished crescents make the activity clear across the foreground. A striped awning shades the cobalt tiled courtyard, with leafy pots and bright citrus fruit behind the friends. The elevated view connects their expressions to the small, imperfect objects taking shape between their hands.
