Five in the Roofless Keep
Published · Updated
First snow drifts over the broken rim of a round castle keep, settling lightly on its stonework. Far below, five costumed adults look toward the open sky. A minstrel reaches upward from the shoulders of a green dragon, with a lute resting behind him. A falconer, a queen in burgundy and a blacksmith stand nearby, their small figures giving the immense chamber a clear human scale.
The keep carries traces of rooms that no longer exist. Fireplaces and narrow windows sit high above the grass, while ivy follows a long seam down the grey wall. Pale arch surrounds stand out against irregular darker stones. The floor is scattered with fallen masonry, and one orange pumpkin adds a warm autumn note beneath the cold sky. From the high viewpoint, snowflakes cross every layer of the photograph, from the nearest rim to the distant gathering. Soft velvet, rough leather and the dragon’s overlapping scales sit naturally within the weathered ruin, turning the open chamber into a stage for a quiet seasonal adventure.
