Four Cars atop the Old Tree Trunk
Published · Updated
Four compact car shells sit in a vertical stack above the cut top of an enormous tree trunk. Ivory, pale green, dusty pink and deep burgundy paint distinguish the vehicles, while their wheels remain visible against the evening sky. Dark steel supports separate the shells and connect them to the trunk, giving the unusual arrangement the character of an engineered public sculpture.
The trunk has deeply furrowed bark, a broad base and patches of moss. It rises from a low circular stone border in a quiet riverside park. Warm lamps pick out the bark and reflect across wet paths, while the sky holds a cool blue tone. The contrast between weathered wood and familiar car bodies makes the structure immediately surprising.
Apartment windows glow beyond the park, and an elevated tram crosses the river in the background. Open grass around the sculpture makes its full height visible from the foundation to the top car. This photograph is free to use, including for commercial projects.
