Garden eels rise from the pale seabed
Published · Updated
Garden eels rise from the pale seabed in a loose group at different heights. Their spotted bodies curve gently above separate small burrows, with bright ringed eyes and tiny mouths visible on the nearer heads. Fine dark dots and larger black patches stand out against the light gray skin.
Filtered sunlight makes soft ripples across the granular sand and brightens the open water above. The two nearest eels remain sharp while five smaller forms recede toward a low rocky edge. Seen from close to the seabed, the group feels delicate and upright within the broad blue space, with each body clearly connected to its own opening in the sand.
