Gold Leaf Settles on a Carved Frame
Published · Updated
Gold leaf catches the light along the corner of a carved wooden frame resting on a deep green cloth. An artisan's hands guide a gilding brush over the fragile foil, easing it around carved oak leaves and clusters of berries. Areas of red bole remain visible beside the newly covered sections, showing the contrast between the warm underlayer and bright surface.
Small torn squares of leaf wait on a tan cushion beyond the frame. The close diagonal view makes the raised carving and crumpled foil edges the center of attention, while the blue floral sleeves add a quiet pattern. Side light brings out the wood relief, loose fragments and soft bristles without flattening their different textures.
