Golden larches climb the snow-dusted mountain
Published · Updated
Golden larches climb the rocky mountain slope beneath immense gray cliffs. Their yellow needles form airy conifer-shaped crowns among dark evergreens, with smaller golden groups continuing across distant shelves. Rough stones and low rust-colored shrubs cover the nearer ground.
Snow lies in the upper gullies and across broad ledges, while cloud brushes the highest ridge. A break in the autumn sky sends warm light over part of the forest and leaves the cliff faces cooler. The view follows the rising slope from visible near branches toward the much larger mountain wall. Layers of foliage, exposed rock and snow establish depth without a road or building interrupting the open landscape.
