Honeycomb sandstone holds the afternoon shadows
Published · Updated
Honeycomb sandstone holds the afternoon shadows in a varied surface of rounded cavities. Thin pale ribs separate the hollows, their smooth edges catching light while the interiors stay dark. Fine sandy grains and tiny ledges interrupt the larger pattern of openings.
The boulder crosses the frame diagonally, leaving a narrow strip of softly focused sea at one side. Warm beige stone contrasts with the cooler gray-blue distance, giving the close texture a clear coastal setting. Seen at this scale, the weathered face becomes a landscape of small walls, pockets and shaded spaces, while the grazing light keeps its uneven physical surface easy to follow.
