The Iridescent Coil Fills the Hall

Published · Updated

A huge transparent coil bends through the centre of a bright gallery, rising into broad loops beneath the timber ceiling. Its clear ribs are joined by small metal pivots, creating a repeated mechanical rhythm along the curved body. Thin plates inside the structure catch blue, green and gold reflections. Their colours change from one segment to the next as the surface turns toward the window.

Steel chains descend from the roof beams to support the highest bends. The lower curve sweeps close to the wooden floor, where its weight and scale become easier to judge. Beyond it, a small bench sits beneath an arched window filled with autumn trees. The plain walls leave space around the complicated transparent form, and scattered prismatic highlights move across their pale surface. Daylight reveals screws, edges and overlapping layers without hiding the construction inside a uniform shine. The view follows the coil from its low foreground sweep into the upper loops, where the empty spaces frame the hall and show how much room the sculpture occupies.
